In Bitumen crowds greet Celestia as Barclay and Semmes bring capitalists to back a new constitution. Celestia’s rally at the stockade attracts thousands while Tommy warns of nationwide upheaval. Barclay pledges to transform the United States into a home for families, as the luxury campaign train departs.
In a northern town Tommy Barclay and Mary Blackstone reveal Celestia’s past as Amesbury, daughter of a conspiracy and kidnapped by Stilliter. Celestia dismisses the claims yet the plot to expose her grows, while Stilliter and Mrs Gunsdorf prepare a dangerous move as the train heads north. Celestia listens tiredly, and Barclay hints at a possible cave that would prove her origins.
