A Laramie dispatch reports Austrian miners Mike Kalyar and Laza Javeg died in a birthday celebration fire at the New Rambler mine west of Encampment. Galeque the French Canadian slept through smoke, his companions perished. bones and ash near the cabin door suggest a failed escape. Javeg's ashes were identified by a knife found with a brother of the deceased.
