In North Dakota heavy ground plowing signals a large flax crop while a local settler compares the Milwaukee road favorably to the N P as a quicker route to cheaper land. They report widespread land transfers by non residents with few selling lumps remain. An old settler explains selling now would force wage work due to insufficient income from sale proceeds.

Editor Jewell’s decline shocks local law enforcers

Editor Jewell once guided Bismarck licensing policy and now aligns with opponents of law causing friction with Mayor Register and the council. Alderman Smyth asks courts to enforce the law as tensions rise over transfers to the Soo Company. Emmons county officials complied with the Wood tax law, while the Supreme Court voided the duplicate act as unconstitutional. Emmons county now shows back taxes paid, with substantial credits.
