Sixteen-mile auto bus service to land-seekers announced

A twelve horse power automobile will be used locally to transport land-seekers to North Dakota and beyond with trailers bringing total passenger capacity to about sixteen. First trip to Attae covered sixteen miles in one hour and fifteen minutes, return ride the following day faster at forty five minutes. Local contractors eye survey work north, with possible start soon. Judge Southwick of Herreld visited Pollock and reported his daughter ill. US District Attorney Rourke in Fargo recalled blizzard talk and old stories from pioneers. He recounted a 1878 storm tale of a man and horse, ending when a thaw freed the horse’s ribs.

Thunder Mountain mining trek reported from Grangeville

In a Grangeville letter dated April 18 Jerry Casey of Hampton Idaho describes joining the Thunder Mountain prospecting rush in northern Idaho. He plans to start April 17 with a partner, packing 800 pounds and camping as they prospect for claims amid rapid price changes for flour sugar and beans.

Pellock Pickings Progress 18th in Pollock

Ben Whitney and wife visited town on Wednesday. Mrs. John Rooks of Westfield is reported very sick. Dr. Shockey notes widespread sickness across the river. R. A. Evans now runs his barber-chair from the pool-hall. Pellock plans a Fourth of July celebration. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Putnam visited from Glanavon ranch. Mrs. Niplan Young of Linton visited her sister Mrs. Frank Wallace. R. A. Bielski, near Linton, came from the north and later returned to Howard. Williamson & Ostrum, Winona carpenters, were here. they have contracts for schoolhouses north of Pollock in Emmons county. Hermann Backhaus of Linton has a car-load of machinery shipped here. fifteenth such shipment in recent weeks. Dr. L. C. hhockey spoke on X-ray experiments to a small gathering. his machine is among the state’s best and used in many cases.
