Out of the Depths Petrified Wood Found in Well Digging
Mr. A. Croghan reported a peculiar find at the Recoup office after a piece of petrified wood appeared during a well digging by Frank Smith of Glencoe. The fragment came from a log about 16 inches in diameter dug at 87 feet depth. The specimen weighs like lignite, has yellowish creamy color, and a darker coal center, not a true petrifaction.
