H. C. Lynn Wins Libel Suit in Emmons County

A lengthy libel trial in Emmons County concluded with a verdict for H. C. Lynn. The jury awarded $300 in damages after days of testimony about articles from the Record and related affidavits concerning Lynn’s conduct as state’s attorney and actions during the 1916 campaign.

Lou Dornbush and Bob Looyenga returned home from a business trip to Minneapolis. A Westfield couple welcomed a baby boy, and a Westfield family grieved a daughter's death from diphtheria and heart trouble. J J Fenelon received grapefruit from Florida sent by J H McCrory. Mrs M De Boer returned from visits to Sioux Center and Huron. Hilda De Boer, at Huron College, came home with her mother. A Dale boy lost the second finger of his right hand from a shotgun accident. School Examinations Set For March End

The next regular eighth grade examinations are scheduled for March 28 and 40. Teachers should notify the superintendent with the number of pupils taking the exam. The Ohio Literary Society favored consolidation after their last meeting. Law details for withholdings from districts for not maintaining six months or two months terms and the reversion of funds are noted. Readings include numerous certificates for three and nine months perfect attendance and several students named with districts. Lena Heiser returns after a prolonged absence. A new library rack was built by C Paulsen. The Sophomore English Class discusses The Merchant of Venice with focus on five stories and episodes.

Perfect Spellers and School Attendance Highlight Local Notes

Claude McKittrick visits sister Mrs. B F Palmer. A child of August Ermans died Sunday from measles and pneumonia. Farmers Club and Ladies Aid plan a meeting with Mr and Mrs H H Adamson this week. The Literary Society at W H Johnson's Saturday night drew a large crowd. Consolidate Schools debate ends in affirmative victory. Next meeting set for Albert Dobson’s home on March 6.
