Allied merchant fleet off Virginia Capes swells to twenty

Reports say 20 vessels heavily laden with cargo for war zones assemble off the Virginia Capes awaiting convoy. The fleet is expected to sail tomorrow night guarded by three cruisers, with fast cruisers and destroyers to join before entering the danger zone.

Judge Nuessle and Court Reporter Wattam reached Linton Saturday night with attorney Clemens Kelsch from Mandan. Court opened Monday amid holiday. State vs Doscher found guilty of malicious mischief. Volk case dismissed due to unavailable witness. Baumgartner pleaded guilty to blind-pigging.

School Notes Reflect Week in Main Building

The director and Mrs Fergus and Mrs Fogle visited the two lower rooms this week. Lincoln's birthday was observed by all rooms on Monday. Philipena Bosch and Amile Sautter were absent late in the week. The seventh grade physiology class finished the book Control of Body and Mind. Alfred Johnsonbaugh has been absent about a week.

Soldier boy writes from Jefferson Barracks to Linton friends

A soldier at Jefferson Barracks writes that five Linton men will go to the border. He mentions El Paso Texas and Columbus New Mexico as future stations and says the group enjoys the home Record read every Sunday morning. Best regards from Teuben.

Lincoln Birthday Program At High School

The High School hosted a Lincoln birthday program by the Boys Debating Society. Oscar Mohn led Star Spangled Banner and Early Life of Lincoln, with Walter Mohn and Oscar Berthean discussing Lincoln up to and during the Civil War. Herman Berthean presented an essay on Lincoln. Ronald Schlangen read Second Inaugural. Professor Sheilo spoke on national song respect, and janitor A Winroth repaired broken chairs in the laboratory.

Examinations Held Amid Stormy Weather and Attendance Awards

Despite stormy weather and blocked roads, a list of teachers appeared for examinations on February 4th and 5th, including Isabelle Ryckman Nettie Porter May Burbage and others. Fees collected totaled 51 dollars, with 10 dollars sent to the state department and 41 dollars to the county treasurer for the institute fund. Selah Carlson of Kintyre district No 25 earned nine months perfect attendance. other certificates for three months went to Mat Glass John Krumm Rosa Glass Frank Glass Emma Ripplinger Barbara Glass Mike Glass Leopold Bosch Edith Winterberg Richard Green Hidde Nieuwsma John Baumgartner Jacob Baumgartner Maggie Werlinger Eva Werlinger and Raymond Kleink.
