Republican newspaper rises in Steele by E. S. Elliott

The new paper Republic published by E. S. Elliott debuts in Steele its pages tidy and newsy. Indian-school teacher Hazard at Cannon Ball plans to quit rather than seek a wife. authorities will transfer him to a boarding school avoiding the single man issue.

Death of Sylvanus Smith of Glencoe Burleigh County

Word reached Linton last Wednesday that Sylvanus Smith of the Glencoe neighborhood in Burleigh County died suddenly after stating he did not feel well. He moved to Burleigh from Missouri in 1882 with his family. Surviving are his wife and five daughters Mrs Macdonald wife of Senator Alexander Macdonald of this district Mrs George Day Miss Pearl Smith of Glencoe Mrs Arthur Meerson of Idaho and Mrs John Irwin of Burleigh County. Son F D Smith died two years ago. Funeral services were conducted by Rev John Wray at Glencoe church and interment was in Glencoe cemetery. Deceased was held in high regard for his honesty and upright life.

Two daily trains left Chicago for Colorado and California

The Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Railway added double daily service from Chicago to Colorado and California via its routes. Through sleepers and reclining chair cars run between Chicago and Denver and Chicago and San Francisco. The Colorado train leaves Chicago at 9 45 p m and reaches Denver the next afternoon. Descriptive folders are available from any ticket agent or A Miller, General Passenger Agent, Chicago.

Term of Court Disposes Civil Cases in District Court

District court opened Monday evening with Judge Luchester presiding. No jury appeared. all civil cases triable were disposed of. Several cases were continued or dismissed by consent, while others resulted in judgments for plaintiffs in disputes over land, contracts, and notes.

Southwest Limited electric train opens new Chicago to Kansas City route

The Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway completed a direct line via Moline Rock Island Davenport Muscatine Washington Ottumwa to Kansas City. The Southwest Limited began service December 6 with sleepers dining car observation car and other cars. A second daily train on the same route is offered and tickets are available through agents or F A Miller.
