Emmons County records note two caucuses to pick delegates for the county convention on May 10. Precincts will hold sessions next Saturday afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m. at designated locations.
State's Attorney Lynn led an inquest into the death of Mary Van de Vorste a fifteen year old of Pollock Westfield and Linton area. The coroner's jury ruled the death due to acts of parties unknown with an abortion. Van de Vorste later confessed the abortion and the body remained missing. Aart Van de Vorste was arrested on a serious case in the first degree charge and held for the next district court term. The community awaits trial amid shock at the alleged crime by a family member.
Grim Reaper claims a second Winona bereavement as Thomas Parks, a respected county pioneer aged 84, passes at about 1 a.m. Saturday after a brief illness. A native of Union County, Pa., he followed his father’s pioneer example from youth, shaping his long life in the county.
Correspondence notes the loss of John Carlson born in 1868 Sweden who lived in Hudiks vall, migrated to Dakota, worked in navigation and ferry service at Mandan and Winona. His TB illness and climate-related decline led to death on a trip to Washington and return via Bismarck. He is praised as courteous, devout, and benevolent, with funeral rites near the Spicer lot. Minutes of the Linton Cemetery Association meeting held Saturday April 23 1904 elect W E Petrie chair and appoint a three member committee E A Crain C A Patterson and C Coventry to draft by laws. Trustees to select cemetery land for purposes and report at April 30 1904 meeting. Adjournment approved.
The Republican County Central Committee of Emmons County North Dakota calls a delegate convention in Linton May 10 1904 at 2 p m to elect seven delegates to the state convention at Fargo May 18 and three delegates to the judicial convention at Mandan May 29. Also ten delegates to the legislative convention to be fixed and seven delegates to the Grand Forks state convention July 20 1904. Precinct caucus locations and times May 7 between 4 and 6 p m local time are listed with numerous schoolhouses and residences named as polling sites.
