Year Without a Summer 1816 Frost and Crop Failures
Ninety years ago the year without a summer in 1816 saw frost in every month. Ice formed half an inch in May and snow reached three inches in New York and Massachusetts in June. Ice covered window panes in New York on July fifth. The corn crop was badly injured and largely unsailed, with seed corn for 1817 chosen from 1815.
