Day McCarthy faced a trial before Mayor Chapman on disorderly conduct charges. She owed ten dollars and costs with an order to pay within hours or be sent to the Cleveland workhouse. Mrs. Hattie McCarthy sought mercy but paid the fine. McCarthy was released. The dispute stemmed from alleged improper proposals by Shorty McSuis and a dispute over unpaid money.
