At Tuesday's city council session, discussions on municipal electric lighting continued after a visit to Marysville and talks with General Electric and Citizens Gas & Electric. The panel weighed private versus public lighting costs, possible plant ownership, and franchise terms while approving minor ordinances and funding moves.
City Solicitor Hughes ruled the bidding process for the Lorain water works filter plant contract irregular and illegal. The service board must redo the advertisement and reaward bids, reopening a process seen as graft by some critics. The contract involves about 50,000 dollars, with board members Baxter Wiemena and Whitehouse cited as notable figures in local politics.
State Inspector P DeHart completed an audit of North Amherst municipal books covering May 1 1903 to present and found no errors. Ten years ago Penfield Avenue Savings Bank opened its doors. By 1905 it reported nearly a half million dollars in resources and earnings covering its capital stock after interest to depositors. No mortgages were foreclosed and no losses on commercial paper, reflecting strong security holdings and public confidence.
Lorain city officials discuss settling with Fidelity and Guaranty and Federal Bond Company over losses from the Citi zens bank failure months ago. Treasurer A H Babcock notes a $25,000 bond, with the Fidelity firm holding $10,000, and says negotiations target the bond portion plus potential dividends. If talks fail, other means to recover funds will be pursued before next winter.

Columbus reports say Republican John Bain nominated for mayor of Marion intends to back Herrick. Marion Congressman Grant Monser telegraphed to state headquarters that Bain would vote for Herrick, confirming cross party support amid local campaign chatter.
John Doe a driver for Elyria Canning Company faced a warrant issued Thursday for depositing and leaving unburied offensive material at the city dump after canning. The case tests the city ordinance requiring all refuse to be dumped at the city dump, sparking debate over enforcement and municipal policy.
Sherman H Wood, a freight brakeman from Grafton, is hospitalized in Lorain after a train incident at 4 15 Sunday morning. A sudden jolt caused him to fall between cars, one truck passing over his leg, leading surgeons to contemplate amputation amid serious bruises. Friends have gathered from Grafton to support him.
Lorain officials issued a new precinct plat for the city. Precinct C in the Third ward remains east of Washington Street with booths at Pulaski Street and Oberlin Avenue. Fourth ward gains a third precinct, with Precincts C D and E in defined blocks and booths at Tenth Avenue engine house, Clinton Street Eleventh Avenue corner, and Grove Street Eleventh Avenue corner.

Hamilton Ritter was arraigned before Mayor King of Lorain on the charge of collecting six dollars from Wood Lumber Company local 261 and converting it to his own use. The accuser Klondike Temple says Ritter claimed to be an officer in the lumber showers' union and had been authorized to collect the money. Ritter said the money was in his pocket and he planned to hand it to the lodge, but he lost it along with some of his own funds before the meeting. He asked for time and Mayor King set Saturday for him to return the money or face custody.
After a quiet period, 89 leases covering 7410 acres in Black River Amherst Russia Pittfield and Wellington townships were filed. Leases draw up for A Carr of Cleveland, tied to Wheeling and Cleveland capitalists opening vast oil fields west of Elyria. Drilling equipment shipped from Sistersville. operations expected in 3 to 4 weeks, beginning next week or the following.
Dayton Ohio September 16 The Jr O U A M convention elected officers for the State council with James G Miller West Chester as state councilor John J Weltzel Cincinnati as state councilor secretary J G A Richter Canton as treasurer H La Wenner Tiffin as warden Frank Norwood Massillon as inside sentinel G William Fox Cincinnati as chaplain Reverend Charles B Miller Toronto. Canton was chosen as next meeting place for September 1906 The Daughters of America also elected officers.
Construction on the Black River bridge at South Lorain progresses with structural iron due soon. The three hundred foot span will use a 500 foot east trestle, abutments largely in place, grade completed, iron arrived and unloaded, a work gang set to begin Monday, as tracks are torn up and relocated to Thirteenth Avenue with council approval.
The Prohibition Party of Lorain County invites members to meet at the Masa Convention in the Court House Elyria on Saturday September 23 1905 at 2 p m to nominate candidates for the fall election and transact lawful business. W B Cummings is Chairman. Dr Bowman delivered an official Mayor King notice to Sheriff Gallsbury regarding Morton Stephenson who was sentenced July 22 to 60 days and a 50 fine. Mayor King plans parole release due to perceived adequate punishment.
The Lorain County Fair opens with bustling activity and expects a strong start tomorrow. Exhibits in poultry, livestock, and agricultural items are swelling, with poultry moved to the old dining room and space tight in many departments. The horse races are highly anticipated, Elyria on the trotting circuit, and officials plan a larger, stronger program than prior years.
The General Land Office lists 821,872 acres of unappropriated lands in the Northwest states, with Oregon holding 20,174,254 acres of vacant land and significant survey completion. Lorain County population is estimated between 68,000 and 70,000, with Lorain city at 24,500 and Elyria at 12,600, and projected to exceed 100,000 in ten years as towns grow.
