Steve Dombrowski a round House laborer in the B and 0 yards at Lo rain was pinned beneath the firebox of an engine on Wednesday afternoon and cooked to death. About 4:80 o'clock the accident occurred as he drew hot cinders from the box preparing the engine for night service. A heavy clinker weighing 50 to 75 pounds loosened by a jerk from a long iron poker crashed onto the waste pipe cock causing a blast of steam. The escaping steam and pressure of 180 pounds filled the air as cries for help echoed before workers released him. He was taken to St Joseph's hospital and died hours later.
The gospel ship association of Lorain has filed incorporation papers. Corporators are J. I. Cook D. Jay Good F Ward F W Diggs and D Baird, all prominent church workers and some ministers. The group aims to raise funds and fit out a gospel ship to work the Great Lakes harbors, distributing Bibles and preaching to workers and non churchgoers.

A heavy storm toppled a tree onto the L. A. and M.S. Hailway track between North Amherst and Elyria. A bound freight train passed, the engineer alerted North Amherst, and the Twentieth Century Limited was diverted to Elyria. The wreck would have been catastrophic if the train had struck the obstructed track at high speed.
Elyria woman Mrs Emma S Olds is named for a principal place on the program of the Ohio Woman's Suffrage Association convention to be held in London October 11 and 12.
The Lorain Street Railway is sued for 175 damages for loss of a horse and buggy after a collision with a street car at Lorain on June 14. The plaintiff charges the car was operated far faster than allowed by a city ordinance.
The fair this year outshines last with larger displays and wider variety. Floral hall features merchants samples, crafts from public school workshop students, and improved vendor booths. Thieves raided Thomas Sherbert's grocery at Elyria Junction on Thursday night. About 40 in cash and a large stock were stolen after forced entry through the rear door. A wagon helped the robbers flee. police and a bloodhound pursued but failed to track the thieves.

Streetor Streator, an elderly Lorain resident who suffered a skull fracture in an assault during a highway robbery at the B and O yards about a year ago, has recovered in Michigan and plans to return to work on the H and O line soon. He is over sixty and a diamond lover, previously wearing a splendid epigram, and was targeted for his jewelry. The two suspects were caught in Cleveland after the diamond was found and were sentenced to long prison terms. they later attempted to escape Elyria jail but were thwarted by Sheriff Sailbury’s daughter, and are now serving time in Columbus.
The Board of Public Service asks the council for legislation to raise 850,000 for a second pumping station pump and to complete the water works plan. Only one pump is installed and a failure would leave the city without water for days, hindering fire protection. The plan includes a larger 12 inch main on Lodi Street and unfinished components, with 40,000 reportedly left over being misreported. The request is seen as a first step for ongoing needs to complete and maintain the system.
At noon on Wednesday contractors building the Washington avenue bridge released water from the lower East branch dam to permit the central pier construction. The river bottom along much of the approach was exposed as a result.

Jerry Jad, known as the "hot waffe" man, is under arrest on a receiving stolen property charge. He asserts he knew nothing of the crime until a telephone tip brought him to Elyria on Saturday, and that he searched the county for the boys, aided by police Sunday, hoping for his release as investigators pursue the truth.
Joe Townsend, longtime cleaner for Elyria businesses, died after a fall from the top of a West Elyria bridge on Tuesday night. Found by the L. A. and M. S. railway bridge, investigators say he fell about thirty feet onto the stone edge, with possible head injury. Townsend, about sixty, leaves a wife and three sons, one of whom is in Germany serving as a chauffeur for an American millionaire. He resided on Hurog Street just outside the city limits.
