John Miller, just released after a year in the Ohio penitentiary for abandoning his minor children, seeks a warrant for his wife on charges of perjury and blackmail. He claims she lied to convict him and threatens action against her sister, with custody and child placement at stake.
The Davis family faced a close call when their eight year old ate rat poison sold as a guaranteed rat killer. The mother and Dr. Cushing acted quickly and administered antidotes, saving the child’s life.
The Justin Adams dramatization of the best New England story is presented by a noted company in four acts and five scenes. It reproduces scenes from Mason's Corner Putnam farm and Pettingill homestead with a New England snow storm. The play opens October 31 at the Elyria theater.
Detectives traced cases of 35 shoes stolen from the Erie and Pennsylvania railroad to Dave Rickster a Jew peddler of 151 West Street. Five pairs were found hidden at his home identified by serial numbers. Rickster claimed to have gotten 100 pairs and sold most. He was released on a $1,000 bond and later taken to Warren for theft origin proceedings.
The July trials before Judge Hayden begin November 9 as Cleveland Provision Co versus Kla mitt and other cases are listed. Three intoxication offenders Frank Feneron William Stewart and Jack Mason were fined five dollars. the first and last paid, the middle man given thirty minutes to leave town.
Harry H. Smith & Co begins construction on a three story brick block 20 feet wide and 42 feet long to house a larger Lorain County store. William Stoltzenburg the contractor aims to finish by February 1 1906 and unite Cheapside store with the new building under one roof.
Catherine Scheibly of North Amherst files for divorce from Jacob Scheibly grist millman. She cites abandonment in August, asks for custody of seven children and alimony, plus restraining order on disposing of community interest. Also notes a Protestant church Halloween social at the Baptist church Tuesday evening.
Charles Han of Robinson and Hancock testifies to a theft at a store where a Celestial man with a pig tail snatched gloves and hid them in his garb. The suspect resisted but surrendered pockets after questioning. Punishment appears swift. soreness will linger for days.
Mr and Mrs Tillgren of East Bridge Street nearly died after eating salted herring Sunday. Mrs Tillgren was unconscious for nearly two hours and needed an iron spoon to pry apart her teeth. Mr Tillgren collapsed at the door and could not rise, while their daughter summoned help as neighbors found both adults on the floor in a pallid state.
The German Evangelical and Lutheran churches in the county held Reformation Day services on Sunday with special observances at St Pauls Evangelical. Rev Lehmann spoke on Luther and his reforms. A biography of Luther and A Mighty Fortress were part of the program.
Miss Anstacie Cahoon died at her brother Charles Cahoon's home Sunday evening at 5. She was seventy and had lived in the city all her life. Six weeks earlier she had surgery at Cleveland hospital and never recovered. Funeral from the house at 2 on Tuesday, interment in Elyria cemetery.
