Bert James a hotel porter at the Hotel Franklin Lorain was shot and killed by saloon keeper Joseph Torney at the Franklin alley near the kitchen. Police searched for Torney after the 5:30 pm shooting witnessed by hotel owner R F Powell and others. James died en route to Fey's hospital. coroner ordered an autopsy.
