Oberlin wins the Ohio Big Six championship with 70.3 points at Cleveland. Ashland State places second, Western Reserve fourth, Kenyon fifth, Ohio Wesleyan sixth. Oberlin’s depth in seconds thirds and fourths, plus key pole vaults at 10 feet 4 inches, seals the victory over Reserve, Ohio State, and Purdue in a strong team effort.
At a regular meeting the board of public service voted to raise street department wages from 15 to 1T per hour. The move pleases the city service branch as it aligns pay with specified standards.
A man severely cut by robbers on the Lake Shore last Friday was moved from the hospital to the county jail today. He will testify against Harvey Martin, who is charged with fatally wounding him.
The Gan Club will hold a slot Saturday afternoon beginning at 1 o'clock with the regular club shoot for the badge starting at 2 o'clock sharp. All members are urged to attend.
The Reichlin murder inquest at Lorain will be redposed with Rev. Ferdinand Walser, a guest at the Reichlin home, likely to testify. Detective Mintz received Walser’s letter agreeing to testify. Coroner French considered reopening the inquest to pursue missing evidence, including ownership of a pearl necklace found on the road between Elyria and Lorain.
Smial Hotchkiss of the Oberlin baseball team was badly hurt during the Illinois Oberlin game in Urbana Illinois. He collided at a pop fly with Ashmore and Ingle, fell to the ground and suffered a broken leg with possible additional injuries.
The Men’s Society of the church hosts its regular monthly meeting next Monday in the church parlors. Both ladies and men are invited to attend with a program planned for 8 o’clock.
John Davis, superintendent of the Bertillon system at Columbus penitentiary, exposes that Frank Kennedy, recently transferred from Sandusky, has three prior sentences and aliases. Kennedy, identified by measurements and tattoos as Columbus-born, faced murder suspicions in Reichlin case but denied involvement. His age claims and past thefts are noted with weapons recovered.
A belt wrapped around a shaft caused a line to fail at Brown Cochran Co plant injuring foreman George Hunt and Ansel Glendenning. The incident followed by a funeral for Jas. Wilford in Avorehet, Civil War veteran aged nearly 72, who left five children.
Josephine Smith sues Peter Smith for divorce on grounds of habitual drunkenness and extreme cruelty. They wed in 1896 and have a 6 year old child. W L Hughes serves as attorney for the petitioner.
Avon farmer Joseph Eslinger was arrested on cruelty charges against his wife. He pled guilty before Justice Lord, was fined 320 and costs, and received 29 days in the workhouse, suspended on good behavior.
William Bottomer was arrested Thursday night for intoxication and pleaded not guilty with a hearing set for six o'clock tonight. George Daugherty was fined five dollars in police court Friday morning for intoxication.
