A correspondent reports Oberlin may host the oldest man in Ohio if not the nation, John Ramsey born in Kentucky during the Revolutionary War. Born a slave, Ramsey traveled via steamer, learned of freedom, served seven years in the British Army, and finally settled in Oberlin where he has lived since 1340. He is said to be 121 years old, with a long life of work in mortar making and masonry and membership in the First Church.
