Catholics in America Before Columbus Time
A historical Catholic study by Rev. Ignatius F. Horstmann argues Christianity in America existed prior to Columbus, confined to Gardar diocese in Greenland and northern regions. It cites early bishops and missions from 1050 through 1282, noting Peter’s Pence collections funded by Greenland and Norse support, with church authorities and papal dispensations cited.
