Elyria tops Wooster 1 0 on a Friday in a trolley league matchup. The result stacks early dominance for Elyria as the league race unfolds with regional teams vying for top position.
Elyria wins 1 0 over Wooster in a tense Saturday proceding game highlighted by Stoup masterful sixth inning pitching with three men on base. Both teams fielded error prone play. Koehle and Lawrence posted hits for Elyria while Whitcraft and Lloyd led Wooster with impactful at bats. Umpire Llewellyn called a close, brisk game as fans anticipate a rematch next Friday.
Mary Keating, a North Amberea worker, reported her watch money and jewelry missing from her cloakroom pocketbook while starting her shift at 7 AM. Earl Holzhauer, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Holzhauer, drowned while swimming in the East Branch of the Black River near a cemetery. Rank Ladd rescued the body. ambulance took him home. The boy, a Methodist Sunday School member, had earned 60 cents yesterday to buy clothes for school. Funeral expected Tuesday at 2 from the residence with burial at North Amherst.
The Second Congregational church plans a 10 o'clock sermon by Rev H S Wannamaker on Christ’s command to accept truth and their contrast with hypocritical professed Christians. Evening union and U E service follows at 6. George E Leonard D D of Norwich preaches at the Baptist church tomorrow morning as pastor Johnson is away. Sunday school at 11:30 with H P U and midweek prayer Thursday.
Carl Grall aged 24 son of Chae Grall a Democratic politician of Lorain died at his parents home last night at 6 after a two day illness. He was popular among county music lovers and worked at the steel plant office until Wednesday night.
Miss Josephine Herbert, a day operator at the Rawson exchange, was burned on the left hand and wrist by a flash from her switch board this morning. Dr. Hart treated the injury. The painful though not serious incident will keep her from her desk for several days.
The steamer Augustus B. Walvin loaded 11 140 tons of coal at Chicago and set a lake record by traveling with 19 feet 1 inch forward and aft. She carried 250 cars of coal and remained at the docks 24 hours. The vessel, a La Taín known launch, is noted in history for coal freighting on the lakes.
The committee soliciting support for a fresh air camp reports many residents have offered to host Cleveland children aged 10 to 12 in Elyria and surrounding areas. More families are urged to respond, as the children require minimal care beyond food, shelter, and a play space.
