Two Freight Trains Collide Near Bement Station
A head on collision of two freight trains near Bement station four miles north of town killed one man and injured two others. Engineer Sherman Irish of Lorain survived with multiple injuries while Frank Gastlo of Lorain had his leg crushed and later required amputation. Nelson, the head brakeman, died in the wreck. Conductor John Hertz freed him and the southbound train suffered less damage. all injured were taken to Lorain Hospital.

Two men, John Price and John Derry, were brought to Elyria and confined in the county jail by Lorain patrol on Tuesday morning awaiting grand jury action. Price is suspected in robbing James Donahue’s saloon for 39 dollars Monday. Derry is alleged to have sandbagged and robbed an unknown man near Nickel Plate tracks early Monday.
