The home telephone company bought the Frank Foster house on West Second Street to establish an exchange. Work will take months with a new multiple switch board capable of serving 2000 patrons. The Foster property sold for 7,500 dollars and the upgrade represents a 2,500 dollar investment.
Steven Stevenson of Weat street in Lorain narrowly avoided disaster when a moored ship swung toward his rented rowboat as he returned from Glen's beach. He steered clear by a decisive paddle, but his boat filled with water and soaked him. He plans no repeat of the ordeal.
Lorain on July 10 George Krautter age 12 son of Charles Kraut ter of Livingston avenue is seriously ill with lockjaw after a cartridge accident near the Fourth of July. Parents first treated him at home. physicians were finally called as tetanus signs appeared. A council of doctors says the boy is in a severe case and every effort is being made to save his life.

Fred Bemis a twelve year old boy died Friday afternoon from lockjaw after a blank cartridge wound on his hand. An embedded wadding fragment caused inflammation and the convulsions that ended the fatal illness. Funeral is set for Sunday at 1 PM at the Second Congregational Church with Rev Wanna maker officiating. Interment at Oberlin. Dan Basen advertises contracting on short notice.
Sumner C Cox, an Elyria boy aboard the battleship Wisconsin, writes from Yokohama June 6 1903 describing arrival, Honolulu stopover on June 14 180th meridian crossing, and encounters with Hawaiian music crowds. He notes Pacific Heights arc lights street beauty and a sea of trees, praises the ship’s harbor entry, and mentions the crew’s view of Hawaii as Eden like scenery.
