Andrew Novak of Grafton pleaded guilty to starving and torturing his elderly mother-in-law Mrs Blodaska. He was fined and costs and sentenced to thirty days in the workhouse. The sentence was suspended upon payment as his family faced hardship. The defendant allegedly threw the woman into a dog pen and withheld food.
