A Cleveland report details a systematic tin theft from railroad cars on the L A M S line. About $6,500 in tin from India was stolen in three incidents, with the loot hidden in specific freight cars and moved within the city’s limits. Police and railroad detectives pursue leads while one suspect confessed but did not reveal accomplices.
Citywide low gas pressure spurs a clash between the gas company and local plumbers. The company blames faulty fixture work for inadequate flow, while plumbers deny this and accuse small mains and city neglect. They insist the company must fix the pressure promptly as conditions persist.
The Carnation League of America calls patriotic citizens to mark the 65th anniversary of William McKintey's birth on January 29. Members are urged to wear the carnation. The league, started five years ago, will show Passion Play pictures at St Marys Hall on Wednesday and Thursday evenings with a Wednesday 3 30 matinee.
William Fields a 90 year old retired farmer died at his home in Sheffield township after several days of paralysis illness. A Vermont native who settled in Elyria before moving to Sheffield, he once led local cattle and stock buying for sale in the Cleveland market. He leaves wife Elizabeth and four sons Hiland of Lansing Michigan, William H. of Lima, and Ferand and Wallate of Sheffield township.
The state inspector of factories and workshops reports seven Cleveland cases for child labor law violations. Five involve employing boys under the night limit and two for missing school certificates, each carrying ten dollar fines and costs. Four Cleveland convictions arise under the engineers license law, with ten dollar fines and costs paid. When a chaperon wants to make a real bit she goes to sleep.
Chicago reports the death of Josiah Flint Willard known as Josiah Flynt a tramp author and sociologist born January 23 1865 in Appleton Wisconsin. He traveled through many lands dressing as workers and was linked to Ishen and Tolstoi. Francis and Willard was his aunt.
Mrs Daniel Maltby aged 70, formerly of Marion, died at her Indianapolis home while in the act of prayer. Death was due to a rupture of a blood vessel, a message received yesterday reported.
The Cooper and Allyn Optical Store at Lorain has sold its stock to W. A. Leiter, a rival Lorain photographer. It will go on sale within days. The junior partner Allyn is from Elyria.
Chicago reports 100 scarlet fever and 45 diphtheria cases in 24 hours, totaling 145, with 20 additional contagious illnesses. Health department urges regular school medical inspections, claiming emergency funding of 15000 dollars could end the crisis within two weeks.
Hiram A. Morgan petitions in common pleas court for a receiver to manage Oberlin Ice & Cold Storage Co alleging gross neglect by Harry S. Ackleson and unpaid salaries of Morgan and son H E Morgan totaling 300 to December 17 1906. The suit cites a 1906 plant at Oberlin and a mortgage to State Savings & Banking Co with risk of foreclosure and bankruptcy.

Secretary H H Shirer returned to Columbus from Cleveland after reviewing charges of cruelty at the Cleveland state hospital. He held a conference with the governor, offered no opinion, and said the board would report after the stenographer completes notes. Shirer will not sit with the board for the report.
Pablo Sabla was arrested on a seduction charge against Jacob Poppa’s wife and pleaded guilty in Justice Lord’s court. He paid a $5 fine plus costs and agreed to pay Poppa $50 as balm for hurt feelings. An outspoken neighbor condemned the plea, but later settled the fine from her pocketbook. Mrs Poppy cannot be found.
Chicago June 22 Judge Landis set the Standard Oil Co of Indiana trial for March 4 1967 after attorney John Miller entered a not guilty plea to the first count of the indictment. The first indictment holds 1903 counts though Miller sought to quash all but the first in each of eight indictments. The motion was overruled and Miller declined to plead to the supplementary counts. The court ordered a plea of not guilty to those counts.
