Mrs Ida Crowell on Twelfth Street testified her husband Owen Crowell beat, chased and abused her after returning home drunk Sunday. He was fined 25 dollars with costs, suspended on good behavior. The mayor urged separation, noting the couple have two children and past incidents.
In New York, January 1, election inspectors from Mutual Life and New York Life canvassed ballots for the first time since December 8. Five Mutual Life inspectors, paid by policyholders, completed the count with the help of 99 young women. About 100 ballots were counted in two and a half hours, leaving 249,000 Mutual Life ballots and 400,000 New York Life ballots uncounted for future sessions.
Cassie Chadwick, once a leading figure in high finance, was escorted into the Moundsville federal prison in West Virginia by Ohio penitentiary guards. She walks from the nearby B and O station to a small cell in the women's department as her health declines and officials withhold word on forced labor.
Ministers and temperance leaders censured city council for secretly granting saloonmen extra half hour beyond midnight. A Tuesday meeting fueled protests with the Cleveland Anti-Saloon League branch consulted on possible local option action. Saloonkeepers anticipated passage, while ministers warned of consequences.

Garfield Wilder a graduate chemist from Ohio State University and Elyria High School has been named chemist and superintendent of agriculture at Warrensville Farm by Mayor Tom Johnson and Cleveland Director Cooler. The farm, run by Cleveland as an adjunct to the workhouse, is noted nationally as a model in treating criminal classes.
The Elyria Lumber and Coal Company has moved into a new office building on Chestnut Street. The concrete block structure features hardwood interiors and a substantial safety vault designed to resist break-in attempts by criminals.
Canal Dover Ohio January 14. The Tuscarawas county fair next fall will be run on a wide open policy. Seven of the twelve directors elected by the society favor a more liberal plan than has been followed in recent years.
County commissioners face providing female inmate accommodations as the jail fills. Sheriff Ward notes rising female arrivals strain the juvenile ward, which holds four inmates already at capacity. Two recent arrivals stem from Elyria police court.
Duston A Doyle, the new judge in this district, performed his first act by charging the jury sworn in yesterday for the term. Doyle previously served as a referee in bankruptcy.
The revival at Second Congregational Church features Rev Reese speaking tonight on Some Ancestors of Phose in Elvria Who Do Not Attend Church. Service begins at 7:30 o clock with all members urged to bring one guest.
Daniel Wannamaker father of Judge Wannamaker of this district died at his Akron home after an operation. He is survived by three children Mrs. John R. May C. F. Wannamaker of Cleveland and the judge who lives in Akron.
A. B. Spear, former Oberlin bank cashier linked to the Cassie Chadwick wreck, was moved to the federal prison in Atlanta Ga to serve the remainder of his term as no room existed at the Moundville W Va facility. Federal prisoners shift stems from lack of state contract for national law offenders. The Wabash railroad bought Onstein farm at Amherst for 4350 dollars securing a right of way to Oak Point across 29 acres.
Mamie Jacobs aged 22 was fined $3 and costs for intoxication after being found beastly drunk near the yellow line loop at 11 pm Monday with Mark Lariff who was also intoxicated. Lariff claimed not drunk but was convicted and fined. Jacobs was sent to county jail this morning.
Prof Karland demonstrated handcuff and jail-break tricks before Auburn police, slipping from multiple irons and a prison cage in minutes. Report says he has astonished police and detectives nationwide with similar escapes, and he remains in town all week for a benefit performance.
