John H. Nolen Jr files in common pleas court against Oberlin College board of trustees and George Feik claiming Feik owed $1077.76 for furnishing and laying 195000 bricks at the new chemical laboratory. Nolen says he completed the work, Feik paid $1817.24, and the college sought by Nolen to cover the balance from Feik’s due amount. Johnson is attorney for the plaintiff.
Fire Chief Hafner reports twenty seven calls from January 1, 1900 to January 1, 1901 with two false alarms. Incendiaries accounted for three fires, defective flues eight, chimney sparks three, electric wires one, locomotive sparks two, lightning two, gasoline stove one, still alarm one, and four unknown causes. Total property loss stood at 12450 dollars, with only 800 uninsured. the GC L and W depot suffered the heaviest loss after a tank was left open.
WNelhe Cliff seeks divorce from Henry Cliff on grounds of extreme cruelty and habitual drunkenness after their 1886 marriage. Meoud A. Gates files for divorce from Bert C. Gates for extreme cruelty. E. W. Lester and Kate E Leater named executors of James Lester's Avon will. Smith Crowell named administrator of Silas Crowell's Grafton estate. H. G. Richard Ulmgrehneider seeks 82.64 for carpentry on the Lewis house at West Second Street. A jury split five for the plaintiff and one for the defendant. The judge will decide based on trial evidence.

An aged woman, Mrs. Clara Elliott, narrowly escaped a murderous arson attempt at her Westavenna home near Lochstrest. Fire targeted three rooms with coal oil poured around, threatening occupants except Elliott, while threats to leave the house were previously received by her roommate and sister. Authorities probe motive and suspect none.

About 12 000 feet north of Ridge road on a Wednesday night a deliberate obstruction on the L and E tracks endangered Car No 88 carrying 30 passengers under Conductor Chelts and Motorman Dabba. The motorman slowed in time. only scrapers and minor injuries resulted. Suspects Mike Gracan and John Sagina were arrested. their shoes and the snow tracks linked to the obstruction. Ridgeville held one of its largest and most enthusiastic Farmers Institutes with a strong program. Lecturers Moesars A S Allen and John Bagg presented valuable talks while Wm Green of Avon discussed enemies of grape and peach crops. Webber Braman and Prof Reefy also gave well received papers. The Ensoh Roofing Company of Akron sues county officials over a Children’s Home project in Oberlin. They allege a $196.20 remaining balance from a $3300 contract with James Davault and seek judgment for $106.30 while challenging liens’ validity.
The Sandugky Interurban Electric Railway Company amends its charter to allow a branch line from near Ceylon through Berlin Heights to Norwalk and another from Oak Point in Lorain county through Amherst to South Amherst. Stockholders include C. H. Stewart 850 shares John Sherman 100 Fames B. Hogue 400 E. W. Moore 40 B. Mahler 850 H. A. Verett 850 OC Wason 600 J. Hanna 150 W. H. Price 900 and George Shinty 100.
