Elyria Water Plan From Butternut Ridge Creek

The Ohio Engineering company reports a potential Elyria water supply from a parcel of watershed exceeding 20 square miles. A 50 million gallon upper reservoir and an 80 acre lower reservoir with a 6 million gallon daily transfer via a 30 inch conduit would feed city mains. Experts discuss quantity, quality, and the need for possible filtration and watershed policing.

January Weather Record Predicts Month Conditions

A decade and a half of data from the weather bureau shows January averages of 37 degrees with high and low extremes including 69 degrees on January 11, 1890 and 16 degrees below zero on January 3, 1879. Rainfall averages 2.12 inches and skies were mostly cloudy with three and a half clear days, nine partly cloudy, and 19 cloudy in past years. Prevailing winds have been from the southwest.

Allen House Fire Narrowly Avoids Destruction

In Grafton on January 4 the Allen hotel suffered a close call as two furnace pipes overheated and set the floor alight. Dames promptly extinguished the blaze, saving the hotel run by Mrs. J. F. Allen though ownership lies with Elyria parties.

Walked With A Broken Leg In Icy Fall

Oberlin reports A. J. Monroe, long serving mail carrier, slipped on an icy sidewalk and broke his right leg below the knee. He walked home despite the injury but was found in severe pain later. Also, Miss Rogers of Columbus Street died after a lingering illness. funeral arrangements are pending.

Taft Demonstrates Plaster Cast Making In Lecture

Lorado Taft a Chicago sculptor presented an instructional lecture at the People’s Institute on Friday night detailing the plaster cast process from clay models to final busts. He showed a French bust of Lamballe and transformed features to reveal aging and character, while fellow artist Grinnell molded a sweet child’s face as Taft illustrated carving from rough plaster to finished likeness.

Lakeshore adds two heavy freight engines to daily output

The Lakeshore line is expanding motive power with eighteen of ninety ordered freight engines arriving at Buffalo since December 1. Built at Brooks Works in Dunkirk, they cost 15 000 to 18 000 dollars each and will be delivered within two months. Engines are tested in Buffalo yards before road use as shops work increases to meet demand. A separate notice seeks a name change for Salome Plymeister to Salome Stoll in Lorain County probate court.
