City council backs stone for East Broad and East Fourth bridges

The council chose stone over reinforced concrete after a lengthy debate citing cost savings of about 4000 dollars for Broad street and 3650 dollars for Fourth street. Despite favoring concrete earlier, concerns over durability and incidents in town led to the decision. Estimated totals: Broad street 53905 plus approaches around 39000. Fourth street 20552.

Walker Bond Gaol Now Cleared in Settlement

The case of T. W. Fancher against H. B. Walker bondsmen was settled in Lorain county Saturday. Fancher received 8000 dollars from the bond for a 10000 dollar obligation signed by New London bankers. the bonds men agreed to pay half the costs. Depositors have already received 75 cents on the dollar.

Wabash to Open Tangent Line by August

Wabash officials delay formal opening of the Tang Wn line until about August as freight traffic is planned with new bridges and harbor facilities. Delays include construction of overhead bridges over Lorain Street Railway and Green Line tracks, plus dock and branch road work at Oak Point and Cleveland docks.

A New York dispatch reports United States Steel Corp Lorain plant to ship 50 000 tons of steel rails to Japan for Manchuria railway system. Rails fetch 28 50 per ton as largest Far East shipment. Engines cars bridges contracts go to American manufacturers. Also Lake Shore Electric cuts 15 minutes between Cleveland and Toledo starting Feb 28 due to new double track east of Lorain.
