Faculty votes on college smoking rule at Oberlin

Oberlin February vote of students on continuing or changing the rule prohibiting smoking at the college. Star basketball player Guy M Morrison and LH S Caldwell faced potential expulsion earlier for street use of pipes. The faculty planned action after a student poll and the results to be announced. Nearby Mrs. Avis Hamlin celebrated her 89th birthday with friends and gifts.

Webber Bill Badly Beater and Demo at Capitol

The Webber bill to abolish liquor sales for medicinal purposes in the District of Columbia failed in the House committee after a monster white ribbon demonstration by more than 1 000 temperance supporters led by Representative Webber of Ohio. The march did not sway the committee which quickly dealt with the measure on Wednesday afternoon.

Bell Hardware Company filing lists assets and debts

A schedule of the Bell Hardware Company assets and liabilities was filed in the U S District Court in Cleveland. Assets are about 19060 dollars while liabilities total about 26000 dollars. Attorney Ingersoll notes creditors will recover roughly 50 cents on the dollar.

Elyria city officials plan paving along Lod Street from the bridge to Lake Avenue plus East Broad Street to East River Street. Carlisle petition seeks water extension to Maple Street

A petition to the Board of Public Service requests extending the Middle avenue water main to Maple street in Carlisle township to serve 22 new houses. The board sent the matter to the water works superintendent for investigation and to compile a list of streets lacking water service. About 18,000 feet of pipe are ready for laying, and six miles of pipe were laid last year.

Baptist church supper praised for good food and work talks

The men of the Baptist church hosted a Wednesday supper with varied menu and well prepared service. After the meal Charles Twining CL Hennet Metcalf Frank Windsor and C A Metcalf spoke briefly about church work.

County Salary Law Saved Half Million

The county salary law will save the state over a half million dollars this year according to state accounting bureaus based on county returns to the state auditor for 90. Operating expenses total 2 344 595 compared with 2 857 110 last year. Auditor and treasurer offices see the largest cuts with salaries dropping from 788 000 to 484 443 and treasurers from 506 813 to 443 321.
