City considers municipal lighting plant amid debate at meeting

City Solicitor W B Johnson announced support for a municipal lighting plant, surprising some council members. The Cleveland engineer would inspect the town to assess needs while experts advised arc lights downtown and side street lighting for pedestrians. Some favored rejecting gas and electric contracts with Citizens Gas and Electric, citing past promises and poor service. Johnson argued gas lighting is workable with proper regulation, but urged public ownership as solution. Councilman Mueller praised The Reporter for standing with the people.

Superintendent Wilcoxson of Co & S W states the traction company will repair the pavements on West Broad Street. The street is ridged along its entire length from car passage. City engineer will direct the work and the company will bear the cost.

County Carrier Examination Announcement

On March 2 at the Lorain post office an examination will be held for carriers to supply eligible lists for all county post offices. Applications must reach Washington by February 20. Ages 17 to 35 are eligible unless honorably discharged veterans. The county eligible list is said to be very low.

Miss Lucy Snow a former city resident and Methodist leader died in Kansas City Kansas. Telegrams state the remains will be shipped here Thursday and funeral set for Saturday with no further details.
