Sheffield farmer John Wertz lost his left arm when a feed shredder pulled it into a machine on his farm around 9 am Tuesday. An engineer shut off the engine, rescuers freed him, doctors Chamberlain Robinson and Appleby amputated the arm just below the shoulder. Wertz survived and is expected to recover.
Marion Forney through Levina Forney sues C E and W Ry and Oberlin Telephone Co alleging a sagging uninsulated wire on the electro line near Hamilton and South Main Oberlin came into contact with the trolley. The infant suffered severe burns, three fingers amputated, and permanent disability. The petition claims extensive nervous and physical impairment and seeks 25000 in damages. KE M Palmer is attorney.
Dr Moffett of Lorain will wed Miss Elsie Long of Ely via this Thursday evening. The ceremony at the bride’s home will be performed by the groom’s father, a former minister at the Church of Christ in Lorain. After the wedding the couple plan to board until after year’s end, then take a household on Second Avenue.
General Miles voices approval of Admiral Dewey s judgment in the Sampson Schley controversy. He praises Dewey as a former fleet commander who understands the pressures on officers and expects the public to endorse Dewey s conclusions. Miles declines to opine on possible congressional action.
The council met Tuesday with all members present. A communications from the water and street departments discussed crossings on Lake Avenue and Wells and Liberty streets. The Washington Street Bridge was deemed unsafe and a plan to warn and restrict loads was set. West Avenue Speedway use for sleighing loomed as a debated measure with safety concerns.
