An accident at the National Labe Company slag yards occurred before noon on Wednesday. A blast caused a premature explosion when ground was hot, killing a worker and injuring another man named Miller and an unknown associate, with Ferguson later removed to hospital.
Robert Acbel, arrested on petit larceny, appeared before Judge Hinman and was fined ten dollars plus costs. His father paid the fine and he was discharged. Elyria Iron and Steel Co plant seeks young men for housing department work with steady employment.
Barbers warn late summer is prime for hair tonic sales and scalp care as sun and salt water exposure push men toward baldness. County Reorder Charles Tucker leads a group to organize a new firm to furnish abstracts and titles. Cleveland, Elgria and Lorain men show interest and plan incorporation with capital stock of 25000. The company will keep books enabling rapid abstracts and cover all property in the county.
Married Misa Maude Holliday and William T. Copas wed on Tuesday at the bride's Cleveland home due to the grandmother's illness. They departed for a wedding trip to the St. Louis exposition and plan to reside on East River Street after October 1.
The mayor of Lorain heard the case of the Forest City Credit Clothing Company against Dora Potter Hoover Brackett on Monday afternoon. He found her guilty of obtaining goods under false pretenses and bound her over to the court of common pleas under a $100 bond for the waist purchase. She gave incorrect residence information and failed to make payments.
Notice announces closing time 7:30 p.m. on Thursday September 1 for entries in the Faxarrington annual tennis contest. Entries and a 600 fee may be left with H. Squires at the National Bank. The notice includes thanks for funeral support for John Standen and lists family members and contributors.

The badge shoot at the Gun club yielded scores for Vene yesterday with H. Martindale scoring 29 and earning the badge for the fifth consecutive time. Others include W. H. Kahn 22 QO J. Smith 17 J. J. Jameson 15 EB Blavohard 15 W. Jameson 18 K E Wilcox 12 and W. J. Hillier 12.
Henrietta and area residents attended visits and gatherings including Misa Sophia Ackerman of Ceylon, Henrietta attendees at Linwood Park Sunday School picnic, and a Mimp meeting. Guests included Miss Melinda and Viola Sclater of Cleveland visiting relatives, with Grangers hosting an ice cream social at the town hall and other local visits noted.
The city schools open September 12 with lists and prices of books and supplies for each grade. Pupils should report to the nearest building for examination or classification. Transfers may be made later, especially to the new south building. Applicants for the high school meet the principal and superintendent on September 9 and 10. Laurange Ohio reports Sunday morning and evening sermons by Elder Lyon at the Baptist Church. The sick list is updated by Mrs Franz Rawson. A Pittsfield reunion is noted with attendees including Miss Grace Bainbridge and Mrs Silay Stroup. Local visits span Elyria Lorain Cleveland Pittsburgh and Penfield with baptisms and church membership rising.
William K. Smith sues to compel restoration of land granted in 1899 for railway use. He argues the land is no longer used and should revert to him and his heirs. G. Washburne is his attorney.
