Chronicle drops suit over overcharged publication bill
The Chronicle withdrew its case against Parks Foster after failing to press the suit begun two months earlier in Justice Lord's court. It charged $24.60 for publishing Foster's political ad, a price five times higher than local papers, and blamed bluff and fear of testifying about circulation. The suit was dismissed with Chronicle paying costs.

Cornerstone laid for $30000 Carnegie library in Lorain
The cornerstone of Lorain’s new $30,000 Carnegie library was laid in Senator Park on Third Avenue. About 600 attended as Mayor King spoke and Rev W C Dawson Rev A E Thompson and W H Brett of Cleveland followed. EE Hopkins set the cornerstone. Brett spoke on how libraries benefit communities and Carnegie’s belief in education and social betterment.

Dispute Over Board and Paper Bills With Thomas Hines
Fra Vogler told reporters he had a custody dispute with Thomas Hines on Fast Broad street Tuesday morning after Hines boarded with Vogler’s family and bought papers for Vogler’s son. Vogler claims unpaid board of 1.78 and paper charges of 0.12, which Hines refused to pay. When confronted, Hines boasted he would not pay a cent, insulted Vogler, and the quarrel ended with Vogler asserting the advantage in the encounter.

School openings set for August 31 and new pupil classifications

Quiet council meeting approves street paving and lamp upgrades
The council met for just over an hour with Ware present and Hill absent. Ordinances to pave segments on East River, Fourth, West Second, and Chesnut streets were passed. Two new electric street lamps were referred to the lighting committee, and a lamp relocation on Baat River street near the brickyard was recommended for better service. The board of health was asked to address disagreeable sewer odors around the park. Miss Moriarty was granted a week's vacation. A building for fire equipment was referred to the fire and water committee, and a fireproof vault for city documents was assigned to a committee to consider cost and viability.

Room for Lorain epileptics in Gallipolis asylum

City council to require building permits for costly constructions
