Charges Filed Against Van Arman in Lorain County Election Row

E O Jeffries of Wellington filed charges with the secretary of state against JL Van Arman the newly named democratic state deputy supervisor of elections for Lorain county. Jeffries a candidate alleges Van Arman allowed illegal voting used profane language at the polls persecuted him and is liable for removal. The secretary of state Laylin will hear the charges in a few days.

Elyria man sues railroad for damages over transfer dispute

J J Carpenter sues the C and S W Ry in the Court of Common Pleas for $1000. He says a Lorain bound ride began with a valid transfer from Cleveland Street to Lorain, but the conductor demanded extra fare at the town line, then forcibly dragged him from the car. Attorneys Neiding and Lawrence represent him. Stavroula Kaydas sues for divorce alimony and restoration of maiden name Stavronia Velenzes, citing habitual drunkenness and cruelty. Several property transfers are listed with buyers and sums.

Man Arrested Over Board Bill in Lorain Case

Ben Clemens a colored man was arrested Thursday for attempting to defraud Eliza Elder a colored landlady of a boarding bill. Clemens fled toward Oberlin but was intercepted by Elyria police and returned. Mayor King sentenced him to thirty days but funds paid the bill and the sentence was suspended.

Syrians Hurt In Street Car Crash Leave Hospital

Moses Farase and Assad Zeyab, two Syrians injured in the July 19 street car wreck, leave Moses Farase’s hospital today. Farase in better condition. both will depart together. They ran a Oberlin fruit store and have not decided if they will return. Two men arrested in Court Street capture with stolen goods

Elyria police arrested Walter Corley and Thomas Graley after a boy alerted authorities to two men with bulging pockets near the C and S W waiting room. Police recovered knives, six opera glasses, fifteen gold watches, and four pearl handled revolvers. The goods belong to J E Parsons of Norfolk Virginia. The suspects face a hearing before Mayor King. Railroad circles discuss steel ties and cement surrounding them, with skepticism about practicality.

Carlisle man fined for leaving horse without food or water

Lewis Brookman of Carlisle was fined ten dollars and sentenced to thirty days in the workhouse by Mayor Folger for leaving his horse hitched by the roadside without food or water. The sentence was suspended on good behavior. Attorney Lawrence represented the humane society and Lea Day the defendant.
