W. B. Pole of Lorain bought the farm of Hugh Moran and H. J. Hwooek at Bentonawitch for 1867 acres bounded by Elyria road Benton and River roads. Oldest Colored Oberlin Resident Maria Gibbs Dies
The remains of Maria A. Gibbs arrived in Oberlin from Washington and were laid to rest at Westwood Cemetery. Born August 8, 1826, she was Oberlin’s oldest prominent colored resident, wife of Mythlin W. Gibbs, a former U S consul to Madagascar and bank president in Little Rock. Survived by four children born in Victorian British Columbia. one son fell from a tree with severe bruises.
