Courts to Decide on Lake Shore Rivalry in Lorain

Cleveland and Southwestern officials announced plans to appeal to courts over whether the Sheffield Land and Improvement Co. can grant exclusive street privileges for a new Lake Shore linked line. Officials contend the C and S W may need Sheffield holdings to reach South Lorain, while the Lake Shore affiliates push for a private right of way.

Barnhart Sentenced for Year and a Half in Grand Larceny Case

Charles Barnhart received a one year and six month sentence after pleading not guilty to grand larceny. The case involved two diamonds valued at 125 dollars allegedly stolen from Edward Partlow. A woman identified as Corrie Barnhart and Barnhart's wife aided in the theft, with one diamond hidden on L. G. Atlas farm near the city.

Childrens Rescue Society Seeks $10,000 Mortgage Approval

The Children s Rescue Society owning property in Henrieta and Brownhein asked the Common Pleas Court Monday for permission to mortgage the property for 10 000. Authority to borrow the money was authorized by the board of trustees in Cleveland.

Board awards two contracts for bridge work and sewer

The board of public service voted Saturday night to hire John Berg to place a course of areas on the Washington avenue bridge and Fred Sedorf for the Faxon sewer. Rice Engineering Co will supply an estimate for the river system. The Lake Shore railroad may remove its water tank from the West side and disconnect a single water pipe from the main.

Judge Finds Daugherty Not Insane Released

Robert Daugherty of Amherat was freed from the county jail by Probate Judge Hinman after his wife sought an insanity warrant. The judge said the man had family trouble and drank heavily but was not insane.

John Morris aged 48 was taken to the infirmary Sunday suffering from consumption. He came from Pennsylvania several weeks ago in search of work in this county.

Templars Attend Public Service in Elyria

Knight Templars from Commandery A D Knights Templar appeared publicly in Elyria for a special church service at Episcopal Church. Eminent Commander F M Whiteman led 40 Sir Knights marching from Magonio hall to the church, displaying new uniforms and movements, with banners and altar decorations and Rev. Witbycombe delivering the sermon.

A large group of Elyria women attended the Lorain County W C T U institute in Oberlin on Monday with Mrs Lacy B Van Enrk and Mrs Effie L Burtholf named as institute leaders. Tuesday morning Mrs O F English of North Amherst will present a paper on Sunday laws desecration liquor tobacco and related evils followed by a discussion. Mrs R J Cowley will speak on using our literature effectively and Mrs Grace Strong will read on increasing local membership and home visits. An afternoon address by Rev F D Stevick of Lorain and talks by Dr Bradshaw and Professor Rout of Oberlin College are also planned.

Grand Jury to Probe Oak Point Ball Players

Prosecutor Stroup says a grand jury will examine the Oak Point Sunday ball game. He claims the Lorain and Stroup team match produced ample evidence and may lead to indictments. No arrests will occur before indictments and defense denials are tested in court.

Saloonkeepers questioned over minor liquor sales in city

Mayor Folger opened inquiry after a seventeen year old boy was arraigned for intoxication and said he would prosecute any proven sale to minors. The boy and his companions drank after a Saturday outing. Ed Kelly and Jacob Ryan were fined for intoxication and William Kelly faced arraignment for resisting an officer.
