Frank Higgins, manager of a Manhattan restaurant in Lorain, testified in Judge Waahboro Thoresay's court that he and his wife eloped after she dared him to marry her. He supplied letters from his wife in North Carolina stating they never loved each other and would not return. Higgins was granted a divorce due to her desertion and their brief Berea beginning in February 1904.

Will Plead Not Guilty to Indictment on Monday

It is understood that three bankers including Kansen and the Walker will plead not guilty when arraigned before Judge Washborn Monday morning. They may change to guilty later, but are not prepared at the first hearing as they have not yet received copies of the indictment and their attorney refuses to commit.

Levi Gillette of Snandunky was fined five dollars and costs by Mayor Folger Friday morning. John Dos, the Cleveland sign painter, was found guilty of intoxication and fined but the fine was pending.

Solicitor Finds Chapin Claims Valid for Water Works Work

Solicitor Johnson told the service board that Chapin should be paid 304.04 as an allignee for Thortey and Thatcher for the water works intake. He ruled Chapin’s claim for engineering extras invalid and denied Petty and Franklin’s claim for additional work. The board accepted the report for future reference. Dan Easen was allowed 150 dollars for aiding the Washington bridge.

Weather forced the Cleveland game to be called off as fans expressed disappointment. Wet grounds and soggy field conditions ended play early with no result.

New Factory to Employ About a Men

Emmert’s warning triggers bids on city projects

At a Thursday board meeting the danger flag was waved over Emmert’s threat letter. Directors ignored it, endorsing several bids while rejecting contracts for Washington bridge resurfacing, Cheapside pavement, Faxon sewer, and old town hall work. Hatchet Attack on Woman Sparks Arrest Warrant

Mary Chesney's husband in Grafton swore out a warrant for Joseph Noveski after a Friday assault in which Noveski allegedly struck Chesney with a hatchet, causing a deep head wound. Police were sent to locate Noveski as Chesney remained too injured to travel.
