A northbound streetcar at Lorain and the Nickel Plate gates narrowly missed a westbound passenger train on a slippery track. The motorman halted the car just before collision. eight passengers hid in the car and escaped unharmed with no injuries reported.
Harvey D Goulder the Republican mayoral candidate for Cleveland will deliver the principal address at the Elyna Chamber of Commerce banquet on Friday night.
Sheriff Jaws and Prose Cuting Attorney Corran of Louisa County brought Clarence Wilson from Elyria after his arrest at Grafton a week earlier. Wilson, held as a model prisoner, had left his home state over a year ago and was located in LaGrange by Iowa officers. A $25 reward for Wilson’s arrest will be paid to Sheriff Salisbury.
Congressman Skilea has recovered from pneumonia and can sit up in his room at the Hormandle Hotel Washington as he hopes to travel with his wife and daughter to Point Comfort for a month or more to hasten his recovery with sea breezes.
Eight additional indictments were announced at the Inez grand jury session. Alfred Beese 46, of 359 West River Street, died after slipping from a locomotive step at a North Amherst quarry. The 28 year Lake Shore veteran was found mangled beneath wheels and died en route to city medical aid. Funeral next Wednesday at his residence. survived by wife and daughter.
Mr Burton Holmes will present his famous lecture Norway the Land of the Midnight Sun in Oberlin Wednesday evening at 7330 o clock He is described as an extensive traveler and versatile lecturer and a successor to Mr John L Stoddard.
In a Meagh tragedy attempt Frank Granville using alias Scanlon was killed by Jarvis Meach. Granville’s face and three bridging teeth were recovered by Con Imnsbh of Rochester. The teeth later dropped into a Lorain catch basin while shown to friends and he will recover them from the basin if needed.
In Common Pleas Court the trustees of the ME church at Amherst filed a petition to mortgage the church property for 2500 dollars to liquidate debts. They also seek to bar Lalu C Reddington and Horace G Reddington from any claim or interest in the premises.
A large steam excavator ordered by the Lorain Steel Company arrived Monday. The immensity has two finish and wheels with bread tires for mobility without tracks. It will dig thousands of cubic feet daily and parts will be assembled soon to start work on furnaces and tube mills. Regular Elka lodge meeting set for April 14 with officer installation. Easter at St Marys church in Elyria drew the grandest crowd yet with Solemn High Mass led by Rev Pastor and deacon Father Heiness S J. Father Zink of Lorain Hospital served as subdeacon and John Kawczynski of Lorain was master of ceremonies. The procession of the Resurrection featured the risen Lord image carried from sepulchre to sanctuary as about 100 children waved natural palms and banners. The choir and orchestra earned high praise for singing and music while clerical vestments shone in gold and white, with altar boys in red and white.
William M Wheeler sues Robert Chestnut as administrator of Lewis Wheeler's estate for 821 with interest from April 1. Wheeler alleges he provided care during the elder Wheeler's illness and seeks judgment for the amount denied by the administrator.
The Cleveland and Southwestern Electric railway reestablishes Saturday and Sunday half-hour service between Elyria and Cleveland after winter suspension. Increased weekend traffic has made the half-hour intervals a necessity.
Kellogg and Morris Brosa of Chenin shipped seven car loads of wool from Wakeman totaling 579 sacks and over 100000 pounds. The wool was sent to Boston and marks the largest outbound shipment from the area in several years.
