A Chicago capitalist, M. J. Spiegel, travels on No. 22 to reach his ailing daughter after a telegraph message. He charters a special train at 10 pm, reaches his city depot two hours and 100 miles later, paying 75 dollars, hoping to comfort his dying child.
Health Inspector Mott and Sapt Braden investigated the McDowell livery barn at Harrison and Main Street, reporting six horses sick in the basement due to a terrible stench. They will take immediate steps to remedy the condition. the building is owned by Lee Anderson.
Judge Wilson increases the bailiff's compensation to two dollars a day at LaGrange. Viewers J B Crossan B E Kin nison and Marion H Rohrer report on the W H Newell road in Jefferson township and support the petitioners' requested change. Eldredge Cemetery Association incorporated by Walter Eldridge and others in Middlebury township near Clinton township line. Isaac W Short, via North and Zigler, sues William G Monteith Hattie Monteith for foreclosure on a 600 dollar note dated March 1 1898 with 675 dollars sought. Red bridge over the Little Elkhart at Bristol is deemed beyond repair requiring a 65 foot span and two new abutments. Banry A. Paumer, 27, and Della M. Gangner, 24, both of Hilbert, were issued marriage licenses according to Rushton’s Drug Store records.
The Republican judge convention for LaGrange and Hillshart counties was scheduled for Thursday August 16 after negotiations led by Auditor Berkey. LaGrange Republicans demanded concessions and refused Middlebury as a meeting site, threatening to boycott the Elkhart call. LaGrange will hold a mass convention and share delegates with Elkhart, setting the stage for a Shipshewana timeframe and a Democratic candidate for Circuit judge to be groomed for the race.
The jury in Mrs Charles Andrews versus her husband’s creditors awarded Mrs Andrews the right to the stock of goods from the former confectionary store. The case, before Justice Landers, lasted the day with a bankruptcy claim by Mr Andrews after his disappearance. The verdict supports she holds title to the property and the stock is being auctioned today.

Charles Fink of South Bend brother in law of Elliott Crall was struck by a telephone pole while hanging on to an interurban car between South Bend and Springbrook Park yesterday and badly injured. He was unconscious when picked up and the outcome remains uncertain. A pile of unexplained items was sent. Charles B. Harris consul to Nagashi Japan sent data to Goshen Masonic lodge in Japanese coins. He owed $4 and his coin collection sent by express totaled 261 pieces ranging from one twelfth of a cent to 25 cents.
Mrs. Susan Ryan, second cook at the Columbia hotel, sprained her left ankle this morning in the rear of the hotel after a misstep. She will be laid up for several weeks. Dr M M Eckle man attended.
The Nisely residence in Goshen was struck by lightning during a storm yesterday. A large roof and ceiling hole was torn, shocking the entire family. damage estimated under $100. Martin-Haeb Nuptials: Louis A. Martin and Gert rude Haeb, both of Goshen, married Friday afternoon by Justice A. Sanders. they will reside in the city.
Mrs Martha A Thomas widow of William Thomas has been granted a pension of eight dollars per month through Justice Sanders.

Elkhart civic groups form a permanent committee to organize Independence Day events. Officers elected include President A M Barron and Vice Presidents, with a monthlong voting contest for Goddess of Liberty on the float. Prizes, races, parades, balloon ascensions, and public donations are outlined.
The Lake Shore line will replace the old station with a two story Berea limestone depot costing 50000 dollars. It will span 160 feet from track to street, include dining and lunch rooms, waiting areas, a smoking room, offices, and a basement. Separate baggage buildings and train sheds are planned. Landlord W W Guyer must vacate in 30 days.
Grace Davis a fourteen year old girl was arrested by Officer Yoder at 11 PM on South Main Street while in company with a young man. She will be taken to Goshen today by her father to be sent to reform school. The case follows a long history of running away and caretaker interventions.
A new Lake Shore depot is planned to surpass expectations and beautify the growing city. The 160 foot long building will mirror Mishawaka design with second street entrance and modern waiting rooms, dining area, and offices. Telegraph and ticket offices move within two weeks, old structure fenced, demolition expected within a month.
Aaron Rod of Mason Street, employed at Lake Shore lumber yards, was struck on the right side of the head by a falling iron from ten feet. The scalp was cut and a skull fracture was suspected. He was taken to Dr Hisenbein’s office for treatment.

Sheriff Elliott took Grace Davis to Goshen yesterday afternoon for reform school preparations. The girl lay on a cot in the female ward all day, her cries heard on the street, while officers visited and she begged to see her father. Grace is described as slender and reportedly has many opportunities and fading friends.
The Metropolitan Building Loan and Savings Association brings foreclosure against Lauren A. Watterson Luke H. Watterson Luke Watterson and Frederick Watterson. The August 1895 mortgage for 750 with eight shares of stock in the corporation was in default since 1899. Judgment sought is 1000. A Wehmyer represents the plaintiff.
Mr. McDowell rents the Lee Anderson livery barn and says the owner is wholly to blame for the place conditions. He denies occupying the basement and attributes the stench to the owner, following Health Inspector Mott's investigation.
Ninety-nine graduates from the district schools will participate in commencement at Court Park Goshen on Saturday June 16. Rogers' band will provide music for the event and the speaker has not been decided.
H. B. Sykes & Co. will remove on June 11 to temporary quarters in the Crown building. The store will be improved with a new front and interior changes. The first floor will be lowered and the establishment promises to be one of the handsomest in the county. J. S. Dodge traveled to Michigan City to deliver a Memorial address this afternoon.
Goshen health officers pursued Ray Hire, 17, of Ligonier after exposure to smallpox. he escaped quarantine while working near Pierceton and was believed moving west, possibly south of Chicago. Marshal Self and Dr. Ash led the manhunt with vigilance at trains from the south and east.
After the first of next month the squirrel law ends and hunting squirrels will be allowed. The squirrel population has declined due to clearing of woods, with large fox squirrels almost unseen. Ground squirrels are still plentiful but small and regarded as poor food.
Merrill Wilson filed for divorce against Libbie Schasberger alleging adultery with Ben Benjamin and neglect of household duties. Davis Hubbell Davis to assist the prosecution.

County Auditor Berkey conferred with Republicans in the city about holding the Shipshewana judicial convention. The Elkhart Institute Summer School opens June 12 for eight weeks to aid high school pupils.
