Rev Townsend Lands After Holy Land Trip Mishap Report
A letter from Rev B Townsend arrives in New York on Friday May 18 in good health after a voyage that exposed passengers to smallpox Syrian fever and bubonic plague. The ship avoided quarantine by moving to Liverpool. twenty crew sick and four dead nine passengers died in various cities. Townsend traveled with twelve, felt immune, lost weight but expects quick recovery. His mother Mrs Townsend recently died. she was well remembered in the city.

Robert Braden Dies at 90 in Elkhart Home
Robert D. Braden died Sunday at 10 in the home of his daughter Mrs. Belle Ludlow at 702 Harrigan street death attributed to old age He was 90 years 1 month 20 days He is survived by two sons James D Braden and Robert P Braden and the daughter He will be buried Tuesday at 3 at the Presbyterian church under the Masonic auspices with interment in Grace Lawn cemetery The remains may be viewed tomorrow 10 to 2 at the house Braden born February 18 1810 in Ross county Ohio migrated to Indiana in 1844 and settled in Elkhart He built a frame blacksmith shop on West Jackson and later a larger shop He married twice and left memories of Elkhart days He kept a diary and was active in the Masonic order and Presbyterian church He lived a quiet life and was known for kindness and good humor He will be laid to rest tomorrow

Franklin Myers aged sixty eight died at 11 o'clock Friday night of heart disease at his home on the Albert Yates farm northwest of Goshen. He had suffered long and was bedfast three days. An old settler and Mason, he leaves a wife and five children Chas F Myers of Goshen Miss Mattie George and Harry at home and Mrs Elmer Milea of Syracuse. Funeral held today under Masonic rites.
