Greensburg Indiana June 30 after a year of burglaries the city council discharged most officers except the marshal and night watchman and offered a $200 reward for detecting any housebreaker or burglar. Since the reward plan and detective force were implemented there have been no robberies reported.
Heavy rains across the corn belt sparked a market panic at the board of trade. July wheat rose from 73 to 74 1/2 cents amid a strong bull run led by Armour’s purchase of a million bushels. September contracts and oats also ran up as traders rushed to cover.
Senator Elkins addressed the senate on his resolution for Cuba annexation. He said the measure is misunderstood and would apply only if Cuba initiates annexation, claiming the move serves the interests of both nations.

William Hosterman of Elkhart died at 3 30 this morning at his home eight miles northeast of the city from typhoid fever. The funeral will be from the home at 8 o clock Thursday morning with interment in Rowe cemetery. He is survived by a widow four children his mother and one brother.
A new Richmond based company wins a charter for the Winona Warsaw Elkhart South Bend Traction Co to build an electric line to Nappanee with $400 600 capital and plans to extend to Winona and Warsaw. Secretary and GM S A Collins says work will start once financing is arranged and progression is assured.
