4-H Is More Than Steers and Ribbons

Harold L. Boulton Fayette County extension associate says 4-H is a way of life for over 24 million youths nationwide. Participants aged 10 to 19 choose from 50 to 100 projects from beef calves to entomology and photography, with clubs offering community beautification safety and leadership activities. To join 4-H in Payette County contact the Extension Office in Fay ette at 425 3331.

Ilyria 4-H Club Hosts Parents Night at Church

The Ilyria 4-H Club held its annual Parents Night at Ilyria Church on September 16 at 7:30 p.m. A turkey and ham dinner was provided by the club with additional foods from mothers. Prospective members and families were invited. Entertainment was by the Harold Popenhagen family.

Elgin ALCW elects new president at September meeting

The Elgin Lutheran ALCW met September 21 at 8:00 PM in the church basement with Mrs. Gerald Blockhus and others as hostesses. Pastor Brake spoke on circles, the group voted to carry the plan, and Mrs. Russell Wenger was elected president. Nominees were listed for vice president treasurer secretary and stewardship. Forty three members attended.

Cancer Society Fayette County Chapter meeting notes

The Fayette County American Cancer Society combined annual and regular meeting was held Thursday Sept 14 at the Farm Bureau Building Fayette with a pot luck dinner for 23 attendees. Officers were installed and fund totals shared including 7364.47 raised by the Bettered their Best drive and 271.25 for memorials. The group reported 775 registered at the Cancer booth at the Fayette County Fair and outlined future duties at Cattle Congress and the Nov 11 Des Moines state meeting.

St Theresa Circle Met September 19

St Theresa's Circle met Tuesday evening September 19 at the Gerald Fassbinder home with 9 members present. Mrs Wilma Welch presided and appointed Mrs Fassbinder and Mrs VerDean Radloff to purchase the Jayette. Each member paid one dollar toward the project. The feed a family collection was dispensed with for the balance of the year. Members closed with a prayer for a sick parish member. Lunch was served and Mrs Mike Dinan will entertain in October.

Strongs celebrate 40th wedding anniversary in California

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Strong observed their 40th wedding anniversary with a Tuesday dinner at the Arthur Strong home in San Gabriel California. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strong and relatives from Cedar Rapids Wadena and other nearby areas. A reception followed with family and friends, a three tier cake, and the family Bible centerpiece. The couple wed June 1 1927 at the bride's parents home with Rev E J Starr officiating. They have four sons Charles Myrton Kenneth and Arthur and one daughter Iantha plus seven grandchildren.

The Fabricate Club met at the home of Mrs. Russell Friederich with Mrs. Ronald Loftsaard as co host. Ten members answered roll call. Two new members Mrs. Earl Lembke and Mrs. Leslie Lembke joined. Guests Mrs. George Lerch and Mrs. Raymond Builman attended. Casserole carrie was prepared. Next meeting at Mrs. Charles Capper.

Reunion at Wartburg College for Laggan City boys

Frank Baldwin attended a Boys Staters event at Wartburg College on Saturday. Admissions counselor Jim Lenguadora invited Laggan City boys to spend the day and night on campus. A campus tour occurred in the afternoon. Dinner at 6:00 pm in Student Memorial Hall preceded Wartburg versus William Jewell football at 3:00 pm. He returned home Sunday morning.
