The Elgin Public Library announces a floor closure on Sept 23 for resectioning and a normal reopening. New donations include Godden Sattle Villa Vior and Under the Skin Carved The Road Grows Strange. The Eastern Iowa Library Coop hosts a book exchange Oct 9 with 30 new adult titles to replace the borrowed group. Susan Torkelson hired as assistant librarian, replacing Jeri Tara who became a nurse. Miss Torkelson will handle desk duties Saturday afternoon. Mrs Blockhus will staff Tue and Wed and Friday afternoon and Saturday evening.

Obituary for Luella Schori of Elgin Iowa
Luella Schori born August 7 1871 in Elgin Iowa died September 16 1967 at age 96 at her Elgin home. She married Albert Schon December 18 1885 and raised four children Clarence Georgia Mae Leo and Gerald. A longtime church and community worker she belonged to St Pauls Methodist Church the W S C S and the Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband her parents seven siblings and one son. She is survived by Clarence Georgia Gerald and 22 great grandchildren. Funeral held September 18 at St Pauls Metro Church conducted by Rev Donald Caspers with organists and casket bearers named.

The Elgin Progress Club met Monday evening September 11 at Mrs Derry Leonhhart's home with Gladys Feller as co host. Sixteen members attended as Mrs Lorence Muenlethaler read the constitution and by laws. Georgia Schori led a program on Our Local Fauna and Flora using Audubon prints and specimen vases. Orders were taken for towels hemmed by the blind and lawn correspondence notes. The next meeting will entertain Elgin teachers at the Baptist Church on October 11.
