Iowa attorney general questions validity of interim committee powers
In a Waterloo speech attorney general Even Hultman questioned the constitutionality of many powers wielded by the Iowa legislative interim committee. He cited limits on investigations of government bodies and the committee’s ability to make recommendations to the next general assembly. He also noted an opinion declaring void a 1961 statute giving the panel authority over salaries for board of control staff and over a large contingency fund. He urged court determination of the committee’s scope rather than AG involvement.
