State Budget Estimates and Dewey Campaign Tour
The article outlines proposed budget procedures for the next legislature, including a potential blank check approach to fund needs via a committee and the comptroller. It covers Gov. Thomas E. Dewey’s coast-to-coast campaign, his reception by Iowa Republicans, handshake diplomacy with workers, and time given to Negro and farm leaders, with observers noting no clear 1944 political trend yet amid wartime priorities.
