Chicken DeLuxe Fry Up Impresses English Host

Capt Stanley E Prall of Indianola now in England cooked fried chicken for a British family unfamiliar with the dish. He not only fried it but served it to his hosts, a meal that took a month to obtain the bird. Capt Pratt’s culinary feat stands out as a notable cross culture moment amid wartime postings. A separate note recalls Capt Loren Herway of Warn County Iowa stopping in France to tie a shoelace when a German soldier surrendered to him, a moment witnessed by his surprised unit. The piece closes with a wry observation on hill billy music and mountaineer feuds.
