Lydia Lehman Hunsberger born December 28 1858 near Elgin daughter of Benedict and Anna Lehman died August 31 at age 94 She married Efford Hunsberger November 6 1885 in Elgin Their son Max survived along with three grandchildren and two great grandchildren Funeral services were held September 2 at Muehlethaler funeral home Rev E G Steinmann conducted burial in Elgin cemetery Card of thanks from Max Hunsberger and family
Mrs. Geo N Schori born August 21 1879 in Palo Alto county near Ruthven died September 5 in Palmer Memorial hospital West Union after twelve days with a broken hip from a fall. She married George N Schori February 14 1900 at Fosston Minnesota and had two children Glen and Opal. She was active in the Norwegian Lutheran and later the Elgin Methodist church and belonged to the Elgin Order of Eastern Stars.
Immediate family mourns mother and grandmother. Survived by son Glen Schori and wife of Chicago and daughter Edward C. Olesen and wife of Hawkeye, five grandsons George Nicholas Schori Norton Clifford Robert Jana Rodney Olesen and granddaughter Erna Schori. Prayer service held in Hawkeye Sept 7. funeral at Elgin Methodist Church Sept 8 at 2 00 am conducted by Rev A Christen sen with organist Donna Meinhard and Mrs Steinmann singing. Casket bearers listed. burial in Elgin Cemetery. Card of thanks from Mr and Mrs Glen Schori and family and Mr and Mrs Edward C Olesen and family. 2p
Lawrence and Clarence Mueh return from Le Mars with a load of furniture for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Swartley. They stay several days with Chas. Whitney in Britt before resuming travel. Threshing is nearly finished in Elgin with rains delaying completion. High ball players drew interest as Elkader hired L L Kiple for Aurora and Postville played Art Herrling and Frank Kiple in Waukon. Alfred Jensen moves to Waterloo. Harlow Chapman of Elgin will leave the First National Bank of Hawkeye for the Farmers' State Bank of Lamont as assistant cashier.
A Sunday August 16 birthday picnic at Clear Lake park celebrated John Christ turning 80. Guests included Emma White M W Hemingway Ben Manthey F E Bell Will Christ Elmer Stephen and families Des Moines and Dr D B Swenson of Waseca assisted by relatives. niece Mrs Donald Swenson baked the cake.
A park dinner Sunday gathered Mrs. Dorell Cuthbert Merry and Nancy Stormy Lake and Mr and Mrs Homer Mitts Orian TJ visiting relatives. The event celebrated birthdays of Hulda Sutter Leo Friederich and Severin Blockhus with many locals including Rev and Mrs Vance Knutsen families Bertha Mitts Harold Conner John Friederich Wal ter Mitts and Dean Mitts among others.
Pamela Bucher aged 2 of Atlantic was struck by a miniature train on duty at Winne shiek County fair. She sustained only minor injuries and received prompt care from event staff and medics.
Ernest Schori of Elgin born February 28 1875 died August 14 at his home aged seventy eight and a half He was educated in Elgin public schools and Palmer Business College Cedar Rapids He married Lille Thomas in 1896 and had two children Ernestine and Geraldine He led Schori Bros with his brother Albert in livestock farming and management for decades and served as director and president of the Citizens State Bank and later Elgin State Bank He helped found Schori Kuster Lumber Co and Elgin Canning Co where he was a long time director and leader Known for his cheerful manner and devotion to family his passing marks the end of a notable local era.
Wil Schori served 25 years on the Elgin town council and held roles in Masonic and Eastern Star orders, the Community and Lions clubs, and was a trustee of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters, one grandson, a brother and three sisters. The family thanks neighbors for sympathy, floral tributes, and Rev. Steinman’s comforting words.
The Tabitha Society will meet at the Baptist church on September 17. The program includes devotions titled A Fruitful Christian Life led by Mrs. Tofield Heck, music by Mrs. Alfred Jacob, and a missionary letter read by Mrs. Paul Zurbriggen on Our Christian Colleges. Attendees include Mrs. Ethel Schantz, Mrs. Milton Miller, and others listing several college and nursing school names.

Dick Hemmingsen of Newell tested a hot rod on a special strip laid on his farm. The vehicle overturned, causing minor injuries to Hemmingsen. No further details were provided about the incident or governing authorities.
The WSCS held its general meeting last Thursday at the church with Hostessex Mdms. Clifton Wilson Tille Fe Jer Harry Gilson and Archie Howard assisting. Mrs. Charles Gehring led worship and Mrs. Reuben Howard oversaw the program. A skit titled The Sword Goes Forth was performed by Mrs. Martin Wenger Mrs. Reuben Howard Mrs. Norris Canper and Mrs. Charles Gehring. Mrs. E G Steinmann sang a solo. Twenty four members attended along with three guests Mrs. Louis Becker Mrs. Guernsey Smith and Gladys Hanson.
