Jamestown North Dakota August 23 two Minneapolis boys faced a second preliminary examination on grand larceny charges with $500 bonds each. They were to be bound over to the district court as Sherry Becker from Helena Montana arrived with a requisition. The charge involves robbing the Salvation Army headquarters at Helena of 200 dollars.
Sald Winona Minn Aug 23 The Lomberton Elevator company has sold one of fourteen elevators between here and Osage to W W Cargill of La Crosse. The price is understood to be 55000.
A blaze in Hot Springs Arkansas on August 23 destroyed two hotels a livery stable and several private residences at a cost of at least three passengers? The fire began in the National hotel area and left extensive damage across the district.
The Wisconsin Prohibition convention at Oshkosh August 27 adopted a platform opposing liquor and promoting abolition of the drink system. The ticket named Governor H. W. Chaitin, Lieutenant Governor Willis Wy. Cooper, Secretary of State G. Cronk, Attorney General Wesley Mott, State Superintendent A Talluteoah, and others including George Clitheroe and Howard Mergen. The convention adjourned after a mass meeting.
Aug 27 Seattle to St Michaels and Dawson with Brisham and sterners loaded. Brisham carried 15 tons for US Geological Survey at St Michaels and 906 cages of clothing and supplies for the Canadian mounted police at Dawson.
Aug 27 in Minnesota Charles G Linds of Shakopee was nominated by acclamation for congress by the Third district Democratic convention endorsing the Chicago platform opposing entangling foreign alliances and upholding the Monroe doctrine. Professor Edward Orton elected president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for 1909. Columbus, Ohio set as annual meeting site. Orton—state geologist of Ohio—born March 9, 1829.

Special Master Cary filed two reports in the Northern leases turning over four million acres to creditors and reducing four million from preferred stock holders. The land funds lie in Minnesota and North Dakota east of the Missouri river. Also, boundary talks in Valparaiso report Chile and Argentina commissions met in Santiago de Chile with rumors of Argentina's Senor Moreno arriving without definite proposals and possible trouble ahead.
