The Payette County Farm Bureau Women held their annual U N Day program on October 24 at 8 o'clock in the Farm Bureau Building Fayette. Vice chair Mrs Edward Krueger presided. The meeting opened with the audience singing the United Nations hymn. Mrs Ro-
Speaker Mark Buchheit of West Union explained the UN and its duties to aid nations, educate governments, and curb communism. Slides covered the UN building in New York and conditions in Russia, Czechoslovakia, and Hong Kong. Refugees from Communist China were noted. social hour followed with treats by Farm Bureau Women.
Valley Tigers clinch at least a share of the 1963 Upper Iowa Conference title with a win last Friday and stand 6-0 in conference play. The junior and senior squad features tenacious defense, standout ends Dave Thompson and Lyle Anderson, and backs led by Sam Roberts. If they win Friday at West Central, they tie for the title and may match the school record of eight straight victories. Memorial notes follow about Mary Revell of Volga.
Nellie Christ 72 of Waseca died in Spain at Spain Memorial Hospital after a three month illness. Born March 24, 1891, daughter of Frank Bohanen and Elgin Iowa, she moved to Waseca 30 years ago. An active member of the Waseca Methodist church and VFW Auxiliary, she married William Christ of Elgin in 1910. Survived by husband, daughter Marge Stephen of Waseca, son Ralph Christ of Pipestone, and five grandchildren. Funeral Oct 16 at the Methodist church. burial in Koordsville cemetery. Private services held at Pfaff-Kinder chapel. Pallbearers named.
The Elgin Public Library received new additions from the Co-op including Building with Electronics by Zareyh, Mirror Cracked by Christie, Extra Kill by Shannon, Golden Land by Lutz, plus two paperbound editions Drums Along the Mohawk by Parmonas and a Scarlet Letter. Four books were donated: The Red Pony by Steinbeck, More Stories to Remember Vol I and II by Costain, and Station Wagon in Spain by Eves.
Mrs. Sarah Kottman died Saturday night October 19 1963 at her daughter Mrs Edward Larson’s home in Volga at age 84. She was born July 6 1879 on a Volga area farm as the youngest of six children of George and [surname truncated].
Dianna Barker hosted a miscellaneous shower for Gloria Hyde on Thursday evening Oct. 24 at the Robert Mott home in Clermont. Games provided entertainment and lunch followed. Guests included Mrs. Leo Lehman, Mrs. Ane Lantz, Mrs. LaVerne and Mrs. Robert Barker, Gindy, Rosemary, Dianne, Mrs. Walter Mitts, and Mrs. Barney.

Kenneth Ferry Norma, Lew Dennk Kay Cedar, Shirley Russell, and others visited Elk and Clermont area residents, with extended stays by Victor Mauer and the Zim merlins. Dennis Dennler and Willy Smith hosted guests, while Lawrence Mueller welcomed visitors in Elk.
