Elgin district notices indicate the bill entered as second class mail matter at the Elgin Iowa post office in Fayette County under the March 3, 1952 act.
The Iowa State Printing Board will meet in Des Moines on Friday November 4, 1963 to receive bids for the Annual Report for the Iowa Employment Security Commission the General Catalogue for the State University of Iowa Hunting Fishing Trapping and Miscellaneous Licenses for the State Conservation Commission and other items. Bids will be received until 10:00 am the hour named will be opened and read. The Board may reject any or all bids. For specifications contact E. Bennett Superintendent of Printing State House Des Moines Iowa 6-10.
Saturday October 26 includes County 4 H Mother Daughter Tea at Fayette High School 1 30 pm. Tuesday October 28 Extension Council meeting at 8 pm.
Josephine Louise Ostlie born August 4 1878 in Clayton County daughter of Lars and Carrie Ostlie. She married Thomas Lien October 28 1899. five children Lillian Edna Benard Clifford survived. She died September 30 196? at Spring Valley Minnesota. Funeral October 3 at Le Roy Lutheran Church with Rev Robt Guibord officiating. Interment Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers LaVerne Aaker Donald Frank Donald Hatlestad Alfred Knudson Ron.

Mrs Clive Helms born 1906 in Minnesota and 1908 in Texas died October 13 1963 aged 57 in Bloomington Wise She married Clive Helms November 12 1932 at Galena Illinois and had two daughters Dixie Lee Parenteau and Judy Mae Friden She joined Jehovahs Witnesses November 2 1951 and remained active She is survived by husband two daughters four grandchildren three sisters and two brothers Funeral services were held October 16 at Muehlethaler Funeral Home with Kenneth Holmes presiding Burial followed in Elgin Illinois The family expresses thanks for sympathy and support from friends and neighbors

Harry Baker Gilson son of George and Anna born August 2 1880 on the ea son farm in Illyria died October 1 at Fayette County Hospital aged 83. He married Mabel Shaffer August 27 1902 on John Shaffer farm Highland township. They had four children Donald died March this year Dorothy Mrs Wm Frederick Des Moines George Dubuque Wayne Siermont. Survived by three children ten grandchildren eleven great grandchildren and sister Ella Wells Glen dale. He joined Methodist Church, 50th wedding anniversary August 27 1952. He ran a West Union feed mill then plumbing heating business and later worked for Johnson and Son West Union. Funeral Tuesday October at Community Church with burial beside parents. In lieu of flowers memorials to organist and committee prayers from Harry Gilson family.
The Senior CBYF will present a program next Sunday evening at 8 o clock with theme Soul Winning. Jean Schaer leads the songs with the orchestra, Scripture read by Alice Hackmann, prayer by Nancy Miller, and a choral response “Lead Me To Some Soul Today.” The trumpet trio includes Barbara Mueh lethaler, David Boleyn D Lene.

The eee Valley Sharp shooters gathered in the basement of the Baptist Church on October 2. 4-H members and Hels parents enjoyed a four dish supper. Wekeahet led the opening. members answered roll call and shared favorite songs. Books and fair entries were discussed for the next meeting and the council election date was not yet set.
A neighborhood party honored Mr and Mrs Russell L Larson with a Monday evening farewell. Cards and a money gift were presented, with attendees including Russell Friederich Jacob Friederich Merle Ruckdashel Lawrence Gehring Clarence Ruckdashel Riley Grimes Martin Scott John McMillan Conner Dummermuth. Absent but thanked were DeVere Halverson Ed Schissel Dale Schissel Herman Helgerson. A picnic lunch followed.
The regular monthly meeting of the Elgin Lutheran Church Women met Oct. 17 in the fellowship hall. Hostesses included Mdms John Erickson Laurence West and Eugene Lekman. Pastor Fjelstul led devotions from Matthew 25 1 46 and spoke on the ay. The secretary and treasurer reports were approved. Donations were made toward a candelabra in memory of a father and toward a hospital bed for Good Samaritan Home. A birthday event is set for Oct. 22 at Samaritan Home. A workshop was noted at Clermont Lutheran Church with nominating chair Mrs John Butikefer.

Honolulu Postmaster H. M. McMillan and W. F. Kohler returned Thursday night from a 14 day trip to the island. They also spent two days in San Mateo California with Fred Hanson. McMillan attended the National convention and noted uniform climate and waxy green vegetation as most noticeable.
Harold A Light died Sunday October 13 at Palmersenna Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday October 16 at First Methodist Church West Union with Rev BE Basye officiating. Interment followed in West Union cemetery. He was born June 4 1901 to Fred A and Mary M Light on farms near the gin vicinity. He married Grace E Anderson June 4 1925 and they had three children.
A meeting of the Senior M F was held with members present including Karis Sigohler and Lonn Schori. After discussion, Boal and Mrs. Vervi Cofitin attended and contributed to the session.
