Good Medberry Wedding at Arlington Methodist Church

Ruth Ann Good and Robert Eugene Medberry wed in a double ring ceremony at Arlington Methodist Church on Sunday October 14 at 2:00 p.m. Rev Herbert C Shaffer officiated. Attendants included matron of honor Allen Wescott and music from organist Mrs John Smith. The bride wore an organza and taffeta gown with lace and veil, bouquet of blue and white mums.

Elgin Couple Married At Illyria Church

The ceremony featured a fitted scooped neckline gown and a yellow and white mum arrangement. Dennis Meyer served as best man with John Ayonen and Harold Muttart as ushers. The bride wore a tan wool jersey dress with brown accessories. reception followed at the church parlor. After a trip they will live in Elgin. The bride worked at City Laundry Co in Oelwein. husband is a Marine and farmer. Funeral services were held at Muehlethaler and Illyria Church. Burial followed in Illyria Cemetery.

Obituary of Howard Q. Shaffer from Elgin to Wadena

Howard Quenton Shaffer born May 7 1911 on a farm near Elgin grew up in the Elgin community. He married Clara Mae Baechler on December 22 1932 and they had four children Wanda Stanley Dennis and Jon. He farmed in Elgin and near Wadena, drove a school bus, served as Notary Public and church elder, and was a livestock buyer for the Wadena Livestock Exchange until illness. He died October 12 1962 at age 51 after a heart attack at the Wadena Sale Barn. He was survived by his wife Clara and his children Wanda and three sons.

Marion Happy Hustlers Pancake Supper and 4-H Meeting

The Marion Happy Hustlers held their annual pancake supper for dads on Oct 16 at East Clermont Lath Church. Eight mothers cooked for 24 4-H members, 15 dads, and 4 guests, then the meeting installed new officers and reviewed finances. Gary Kittelson was refunded 2.85 for decorations, and Harold Hanson led the record books. A film titled Bigough for the Job was shown before departure.

At the home of the former Mrs Ella Dummermuth several readings were given and contests held. Prizes were awarded to the bride elect. Mrs Floyd Dummermuth of Cedar Rapids presided at the serving table. Dawn and Connie Dummermuth assisted with the serving. Twenty five guests were present. Miss Dummermuth received many nice gifts.

Wedding vows were exchanged by Jo Ann Fette of Elkader and Dennis Lee Butikofer of Elgin at Peace United Church in Elkader on Saturday Oct 20 at 7 30 p m The Rev Alvin Volle performed the double ring ceremony with an altar of gold and bronze mums Candles. The couple’s parents are Mrs Florence Fette of Elkader and Mr and Mrs Lawrence Butikofer of Elgin. The bride wore a satin gown with empire bodice lace and a chapel train. her veil was silk illusion with a Demi Pearl Crown. She carried a white Bible topped by a white orchid lilies of the valley and white ribbon. The bridal party wore gold brocade dresses with matching accessories and carried bronze and gold baby mums. The reception was for 300 in the church parlor with a four tier cake and a host of helpers.
